What can I tell you about me? I have been a registered nurse for about 30 years. I specialised in cancer nursing and loved it. I started and completed a PhD in healthcare communication during that time, which took me down an academic path. I worked as an Associate Professor in a school of nursing, conducting research and designing and delivering courses to undergraduate and post-registration nurses. I also supported nurses and allied healthcare professionals with their Masters and PhD studies. In 2018, I decided to embrace my entrepreneurial spirit and set up Healthcare Communication Matters.
Over the years, I have gained a lot of experience and knowledge. I can appreciate the difficulties and challenges nurses, doctors, and allied healthcare professionals face when working in a clinical environment.
As a researcher, I am nosey. My skills enable me to listen, hear, and observe difficulties and challenges and capture them. I want to explore and seek answers and use those answers to improve systems, services and patient care.
Through training and education, I enable people to reflect and help them understand their practices and skills, which facilitates their learning. They can then apply new skills or insights to improve communication and interaction with others.
I apply a hybrid model to my work. I will work with organisations as a facilitator to help them deliver their communication skills training. But mostly, I develop and provide this myself through healthcare communication matters.
I have worked closely with charities and organisations to help them in either a consultancy or training role. My values are strong, and I will always be committed to doing my very best. It is important to work with people to complete a project on time. I want us all to succeed in our ventures.
My testimonials speak for themselves. Also, the fact that I have worked with some organisations for some time to meet their objectives.
I am perceptive and will observe each person’s style and motivation and explore how they think to build trusting relations.
In training, I will look for the uniqueness in others and help them develop and grow and stretch their thinking. Endeavouring to see the world through their eyes to understand how we can get the best outcome, is so important.
On a personal note, I am open to learning and getting energy from new experiences and meeting new people, and I aim to establish mutually respectful relationships.
